The first alpha version of Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) has been released.  The most important change made in Ubuntu 11.10 alpha 1 is the use of GNOME  3.0 desktop environment ; while ubuntu 11.04 uses GNOME 2.32 desktop environment.

Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot Alpha 1

Ubuntu 11.10 also introduces linux kernel 2.6.39, which provides a lot of new drivers and also supports latest hardware components. If the user does not have 3D  video drivers , ubuntu 11.10 will downgrade to UNITY 2D . In addition to the above features, ubuntu 11.10 (oneric ocelot) also uses mozilla firefox 5 beta,  transmission 2.13, GTK 3, network manager 0.9 and GCC 4.6.

Since this alpha version of  ubuntu 11.10 is a test version; no much changes (other than the use of GNOME  3.0 desktop environment) , except application updates, has been introduced in this version. This version is only a testing version , so it would not be able to satisfy all your demands , which could be made by the release of final version of ubuntu 11.10 ( oneiric ocelot); which is scheduled on oct 13 th , 2011.

Kubuntu 11.10 too have been released. It uses Muon Software Center instead of K package kit.Kubuntu 11.10 still uses KDE 4.6.3; instead of using KDE SC 4.4 beta 1. But it s sad to reveal that it  does not bring  much noticing changes.
