The long awaited WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference has come in place now and the Mac OS X 10.7 Lion has been announced by Apple’s Phil Shiller. The number of Mac users around the world now have already surpassed 54 million and is still growing on its path.
The OS X 10.7 codenamed ” Lion ” is a big update with a thundering 250 new features. Some major ones among those features which were announced during the WWDC event are given below :
1. Multitouch Gestures
First up is the Multitouch Gestures. The multi-touch trackpads on the notebooks are now supported by this version of Mac OS X, that is the OS X 10.7 Lion. Multitouch Gestures like pinching, zooming, scrolling etc now do work with the OS X Lion.
2. Full Screen Applications
In Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, you could run apps in full screen mode giving some of them a better experience who do feel comfortable with this (mostly all does!).
3. Mission Control
It brings up a “birds eyed view” of everything you’re on. With just a swipe of your fingers, Lion shows all your open apps and spaces. OS X Lion do bring lots of small features with this Mission Control.
4. Mac App Store
Launched this pas January, it is of course the best place to explore and find Mac OS X apps. The Mac App Store is now built in to the OS X Lion and brings in-app purchases, push notifications and also a sandboxing mode (which is built in) to ensure more security.
You can create folders and rearrange icons like in iOS and also with the pinch gesture, you could see all your apps flying.
With this feature, you can get back to where you left off in an application when you quit it earlier. When you shut down also, it works!
Lion saves the background automatically so that you don’t have to do anything for it. The document name is now a control which you could use to get more options, like the duplicate option as shown below.
While you’re working, Lion automatically saves your document and saves the older and newer versions of it.
AirDrop solves the problem of transferring files from another computer to yours without needing devices like a pen drive. To share a file, Go into AirDrop and just drop it to the other user who is using Airdrop and they gets it!
A completely newer version of mail has been brought into OS X lion. It looks similar to the iOS version of mail. The search option in Mail has been made more powerful. It recognizes easily what you’re searching for (Example: whether it is a name or something else). Search suggestion are also included now.
